What happens when military service, a deployment to Iraq, medical training, burnout, and entrepreneurship all lead to a new kind of healthcare mission? In this episode of ACES53, Ed Parcaut and Brian Galke welcome Dr. Remina, an Air Force veteran, physician, functional medicine doctor, and entrepreneur. Dr. Remina shares how she joined the Air Force to help pay for school and avoid being a burden on her family. While deployed to Iraq, she experienced a life-changing moment during a bombing that made her realize tomorrow is not guaranteed. That moment helped her decide to pursue medicine fully. She went on to study nutrition, attend medical school, complete internal medicine residency, and later step away from the conventional insurance-driven medical system after experiencing burnout and frustration with corporate healthcare. Today, Dr. Remina focuses on concierge and functional medicine, helping patients through a more personalized approach that looks at the mind, body, spirit, lifestyle, labs, nutrition, hormones, stress, recovery, and root causes. Topics include: Dr. Remina’s Air Force service Deployment to Iraq Deciding to become a doctor Using the GI Bill for education Nutrition, medical school, and residency Burnout in conventional medicine COVID and corporate healthcare pressure Concierge medicine and cash-based care Functional medicine and root-cause health Women’s health and hormone support Menopause and perimenopause Vitamins, minerals, and deficiencies Lifestyle medicine and active recovery Breathwork and stress response Cold plunges, dopamine, and mood Sauna, wellness, and longevity Family support and entrepreneurship Veteran transition and purpose Why the whole person matters in healthcare Hosted by Ed Parcaut and Brian Galke.
